When I was younger I didn't enjoy reading, even though I did read.
I also didn't write much. Sometimes I made an occasional comic (enjoying more of the illustrating than the actual writing) and later on an attempt at a story that was not a comic.
I didn't finish any of them.
I only ever had the occasional fleeting thought of becoming an author.
For years I never wrote. But I was finally finding books that I actually enjoyed.
In 2023, when I was fourteen years old, my family went to a homeschool convention and I was able to meet S. D. Smith, who was (and is) my favorite author. It was also there, at that convention that I also joined The Young Writers Workshop, which is an online writing community for young writers. I never had thought that it would have the impact on me that it has had. I made (and making!) writing friends and learned (and learning!) so much.
My dry writing seed within me was finally watered and it began to take root.
I started to dream that maybe I could do this as a career, but it was more of a question. I wondered if this was something I could actually do.
My Writing Journey
In April 2023 I joined The Young Writers Workshop which is an online writing community for young writers.
For about three years I worked on a single story and wrote 15k in it, but dropped the project late 2025.
In October 2025 I wrote 30k in a new story for an event in The Young Writers Workshop.
In January 2026 I finished the rough draft of my story I had started in October.
Dates
For almost three years I worked on a single story, writing off and on whenever I felt like it, but that story didn't make it very far past 15k words.
I was gradually loosing interest in my story. I would brainstorm and dream of the epic fantasy story it could be, but writing it was another thing.
In 2025, The Young Writers Workshop had a event with the challenge to write 30k in the month of October.
I took on the challenge. And I believed that I could achieve it.
I dropped my story idea I had been working on for the past three years and started a completely different story.
That October I successfully wrote 30k in my new story idea. I doubled the word count of my previous story that I had been working on for three years in one month.
I finally found the enjoyment in writing that I had dreamed of.
Since then I have been taking writing seriously with a career in mind.
My dream is to become an author and I'm taking steps and working hard to make it a reality. I'm not just imagining it as a world I can never reach.
